Surat Flight Ticket Prices Drop Amid Increased Airline Competition

Ticket Rates for Delhi, Bengaluru, Kolkata Routes Fall by 30-40% as Competitors Emerge

Surat Flight Ticket Prices Drop Amid Increased Airline Competition

Increased competition among airlines has led to a 30-40% reduction in flight ticket prices from Surat to various cities. Previously, ticket rates for routes to Delhi, Kolkata, and Bengaluru had reached up to Rs 15,000, but increased competition has brought prices down to around Rs 8,000.

IndiGo Airlines and Air India were the only competitors on the Delhi route after SpiceJet Airlines halted flights from Surat airport and ceased operations. As a result, prices for the Delhi, Kolkata, and Bengaluru routes soared. Similarly, prices on the Goa-Hyderabad route increased due to the lack of competition.

Following the merger of Tata Group Airlines, competition has intensified, with AirAsia entering the fray on the Delhi, Kolkata, and Bengaluru routes. As a result, ticket prices have dropped significantly within a month. If more flights are introduced to Goa, Hyderabad, Chennai, Delhi, and Jaipur, fares for these routes may decrease further.

Currently, IndiGo and AirAsia are the dominant players at Surat airport, with Star Air maintaining a significant presence in Belagavi and Kishangarh. Ventura Air Connect operates 9-seater flights connecting four cities in Gujarat. Air India and SpiceJet Airlines have stopped all flights from Surat, and no new airlines seem poised to enter the market. Consequently, Surat residents continue to pay higher airfare compared to metro cities, resulting in substantial profits for airline companies.
