Pavagadh Temple Bans Peeled Coconuts Inside Premises, Traders Also Prohibited from Selling Them
The trustees of Pavagadh temple, one of the most sacred pilgrimage sites in Gujarat, have recently announced a new rule that prohibits devotees from taking peeled coconut inside the temple. The decision, which was made in the interest of maintaining cleanliness, will come into effect from March 20.
The temple of Mahakali Mataji, located at Pavagadh, receives thousands of devotees every day who offer coconut and other items as prasadi to the deity. Under the new rule, devotees will only be allowed to take whole raw coconuts without the shell to offer to the goddess. After the puja, they can take the whole coconut home with them. Additionally, traders near the temple are now prohibited from selling peeled coconuts. Anyone found violating the rule will be fined, and legal action will be taken against them.
The decision has led to mixed reactions, with some devotees and local traders expressing their discontent. The rule is expected to be enforced strictly, and the trustees have urged everyone to comply with it for the sake of maintaining cleanliness inside the temple.
