Gujarat Cancels Police Leaves, Heightens Coastal Security Following Operation Sindoor

Ahmedabad, May 8 – In the wake of India’s recent military strikes under ‘Operation Sindoor’ targeting terrorist bases in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, Gujarat has significantly heightened security along its coastline. Officials confirmed on Thursday that all police leaves across the state have been cancelled, and personnel have been directed to report back to duty immediately due to the possibility of “unforeseen situations.”

As per agency report, the move follows the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which left 26 Indian civilians dead. In retaliation, Indian armed forces carried out coordinated missile strikes earlier this week. Given Gujarat’s geographical proximity to Pakistan, sharing both land and sea borders, the state has taken urgent steps to tighten its security posture.

An official order issued late Wednesday night by the office of Gujarat Director General of Police Vikas Sahay instructed all police officers across cities and districts to cancel their leaves and resume duty without delay. The directive was issued as a preventive measure in anticipation of any potential threat.

Inspector General of Rajkot Range, Ashok Kumar Yadav, stated that coastal police forces have been placed on high alert following India’s anti-terror operations. He noted that among the five districts under his jurisdiction, Jamnagar, Morbi, and Devbhumi Dwarka lie along the coastline, making them particularly sensitive.

Yadav explained that enhanced police deployment has already been implemented over the past two days across Gujarat’s coastal regions. Police officers are patrolling coastal villages and checking known boat landing points while actively encouraging villagers and local leaders to report any suspicious activity immediately.

In addition to regular police, personnel from the State Reserve Police (SRP) and Gram Rakshak Dal are conducting 24-hour patrols and vehicle checks in coordination with local forces. Security has also been ramped up at key installations in the region.

Authorities continue to monitor all major entry and exit points around the clock, with intensified surveillance to preempt any potential security breaches along Gujarat’s strategic coastline.
