Surat : Gujarat Ministers, Environment Activists Honored for Environmental Protection Efforts

Surat - The South Gujarat Chamber of Commerce (SGCCI) honored Gujarat State Minister for Forests, Environment, Climate Change, Water Resources, and Water Supply Mukesh Patel and Gujarat Pollution Control Board (GPCB) Regional Officer Dr. Jignasaben Oza with the "Green Guardian" award on October 25, 2023.

The awards were presented at a ceremony at Samridhi, Nanapura, Surat. SGCCI Vice President Vijay Mevawalla welcomed the guests and spoke about the importance of environmental protection in the face of climate change.

Minister Patel said that environmental protection is a global issue, and that Surat is taking a leading role in addressing it. He highlighted the city's seven sewage treatment plants (STPs), which are helping to reduce pollution and protect groundwater.

Dr. Oza was honored for her work in planting trees and promoting environmental awareness in Surat. She has planted over 1,000 trees in the city and played a key role in planting over 55,000 trees.

SGCCI Environment, Pollution Control, and Waste Management Committee Chairman Kunal Shah said that cities will be increasingly judged on their carbon and green credits in the future. He called on Surat businesses and residents to continue working together to protect the environment.

The event was also attended by several social leaders, including Jeetubhai Vakharia, Kamalbhai Tulsyan, JP Agarwal of Raksha Group, and Ravindra Arya.
