Respecting Sentiments During Diwali Cleaning: Surat Municipality Initiates New Initiative

Surat, November 6, 2023: In a bid to ensure that people's religious sentiments are not hurt during the ongoing Diwali cleaning, the Surat Municipal Corporation has initiated a new initiative. The Pal Ward Office of Rander Zone has set up a collection center where people can deposit old photographs and idols of gods instead of throwing them away in public places.

The initiative was taken after Sanitary Inspector Deven Desai noticed that many people were leaving old or damaged pictures of gods in open grounds or around trees. This was causing hurt to the sentiments of many people.

To address this issue, Desai prepared banners appealing to people not to dispose of religious pictures and idols in public places. The banners also informed people that they could deposit these items at the Pal Ward office, where the Municipal Corporation would dismantle them respectfully as per Hindu customs.

The initiative has been met with a positive response from the community. People have appreciated the Municipal Corporation's efforts to ensure that their religious sentiments are respected.

The Pal Ward Office is collecting the pictures and idols in a dignified manner. The frames are separated from the photographs, and the deities containing the photographs are immersed in water. The photographs are then mixed and made into compost, which is used for other purposes.

This initiative is a commendable effort by the Surat Municipal Corporation to respect people's religious sentiments and ensure that old pictures and idols are disposed of in a respectful manner.
