Surat Crime Branch Arrests Man from Ahmedabad for Making Aadhaar Card for Bangladeshi Citizen

Surat, November 02, 2023: The Surat City Crime Branch has arrested a man from Ahmedabad for making an Aadhaar card for a Bangladeshi citizen living in India illegally. The accused, Akhilesh Gautam, was arrested from the Vatva area of Ahmedabad on the basis of a tip-off.

On October 26, 2023, the Crime Branch police caught a Bangladeshi national named Abubakar in front of GD Goenka School on Vesu Canal Road, Surat. They recovered an Indian Aadhaar card and other evidence from him. During interrogation, Abubakar revealed that he had gotten the Aadhaar card made from one of his acquaintances living in Ahmedabad.

Based on this information, the Crime Branch police arrested Gautam, who runs a land leasing business in Vatva. Gautam confessed that he had been making Aadhaar cards for Bangladeshi citizens since 2013-14, when he was sub-contracted by a Mumbai company named Twin Star Industrial.

In 2016, Gautam was arrested for making an Aadhaar card for a Bangladeshi citizen without proof of Indian residence. He is currently being interrogated to find out how many more Aadhaar cards of Bangladeshis he has made.

The Crime Branch police are also investigating the role of Twin Star Industrial in this racket. They are also trying to identify other people involved in making fake Aadhaar cards for Bangladeshi citizens.
