Surat Creates Artificial Lakes for Immersion of Durga Mata Idols

Municipal Corporation Appeals to Devotees to Immerse Idols in Artificial Lakes or at Home to Prevent Pollution in Tapi River

Surat Creates Artificial Lakes for Immersion of Durga Mata Idols

Surat - In order to prevent pollution in the Tapi River, the Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) has created four artificial lakes for the immersion of Durga Mata idols during Navratri.

The trend of installing idols of Durga Mata during Navratri has been increasing in Surat in recent years. However, due to an order from the National Green Tribunal (NGT), the immersion of idols in the Tapi River, lakes, and canals is prohibited.

To accommodate the immersion of Durga Mata idols, the SMC has created artificial lakes in four areas: Dakka Ghat, behind Bhestan Fire Station, at Lanka Vijay Ghat, and near Sarthana VT Circle.

The SMC has appealed to devotees to immerse idols at home or in the artificial lakes created by the corporation. Devotees are also advised to avoid immersing idols in the Tapi River or any other natural water bodies.

The SMC has taken this step to protect the environment and prevent pollution in the Tapi River. The river is a major source of drinking water for the city of Surat, and it is important to keep it clean and healthy.

The artificial lakes created by the SMC are equipped with all the necessary facilities for the immersion of idols. The lakes are also staffed with personnel to ensure that the immersion process is carried out in a safe and orderly manner.

The SMC has appealed to the public to cooperate with the corporation in its efforts to protect the environment and keep the Tapi River clean.
