Vadodara Tensions Rise: Clash Between Communities Leads to Over 10 Detentions
Police Respond Swiftly to Quell Disturbances
VADODARA, 30 September - A flare-up between two communities in Padra, Vadodara, threatened to rupture the peace in the region last night. The police, responding swiftly to reports of the disturbances, carried out extensive searches throughout the area, detaining more than 10 individuals in their efforts to prevent any escalation.
This recent clash mirrors tensions experienced during the Ganpati Visarjan Yatra in locations such as Selamba (Narmada district), Ghoghamba (Panchmahal), and Savli (Vadodara). High-ranking police officials had previously intervened, successfully restoring order in these areas. In light of this recent attempt to reignite tensions in Vadodara, increased police patrols have been deployed throughout the district.
The conflict in Padra reportedly began on Friday evening when some young individuals were distributing Prasad near the Ambaji Pond temple. Concurrently, a procession from another community passed through, with several youths allegedly using provocative language that offended religious sentiments. The situation quickly escalated as members from both communities confronted each other.
Adding to the tension, there were reports of a gold chain being snatched from a member of the Hindu Ekta Sangathan. This incident led members of the organization to protest at the Padra police station, where an FIR against 13 individuals was subsequently registered. As the situation worsened during the night, additional district police reinforcements were called. Superintendent of Police, Rohan Anand, personally arrived on the scene. Following his arrival, police conducted thorough searches throughout the district, detaining 10 individuals for questioning.
