Surat : Police Crack Down on Narcotics Trade, Arrest Accused with Prior Criminal Records; Over Rs 4 Crore Worth of Hashish Seized

SURAT — The Surat Police have made a significant breakthrough in their ongoing "No Drugs in City" campaign, apprehending two individuals with a large stash of hashish valued at over Rs 4 crore. Surat Police Commissioner Ajay Tomar addressed the media, revealing details of the operation that led to the arrest of two individuals, one of whom has been previously arrested for crimes including murder.

High-Stakes Drug Operation Unveiled

According to Commissioner Tomar, the Special Operations Group and Police Control Board (SOG-PCB) received a tip-off about drug sales in the area. Acting on the information, the police arrested Jatin alias Jagu from Rander, recovering over 2 kg of hashish from him. Subsequent investigations revealed that the drugs were supplied by Pinkesh and Abhishek, residents of Neelam Nagar, Hazira.

Both Pinkesh and Abhishek had buried most of the hashish packets in a secluded area of Hazira Beach. Two packets were retrieved for sale, leading the police to the hidden stash.

Financial Scale of the Operation

The seized hashish is estimated to be worth more than Rs 4 crore, retailing at Rs 50 lakh per kg. The police have also confiscated the remaining quantity that was buried in the ground by the accused.

Past Crimes Unearthed

The arrest brings to light the multiple criminal activities of one of the accused, Jatin alias Jagu, who had previously been arrested for two other crimes, including murder.

Community Collaboration for Success

The police are actively collaborating with local fishermen to obtain information on drug-related activities. Due to this, additional caches of hashish had previously been discovered at Sunwali beach. "Our success in capturing narcotics, including hashish, stems from our constant touch with the community," Commissioner Tomar stated.

The "No Drugs in City" campaign has served as an effective tool for the police to clamp down on the narcotics trade, sending a strong message to drug traffickers in Surat and beyond.
