Surat Police appoints women officers to crack down on sex racket masquerading as spas
Surat police has taken a strong stance against prostitution in spas, appointing four women officers to crack down on the illegal activity. Two ACP level and two DCP level officers will be assigned to closely monitor spas where sex rackets have been busted in the past to prevent illegal activities from resuming. The police have also launched a special operation to bust the racket masquerading as spas, with complaints registered against 67 accused in 21 crimes in the last month alone, resulting in the arrest of 55 of them.
Foreign girls caught working in the spas will be deported, as most prostitution business in spas is done by foreign girls. In a recent operation, the police freed 25 Thai girls and 51 girls from different states in India. Most of the spa raids were conducted in Umra police jurisdiction, resulting in the arrest of 22 accused. 19 foreign girls and 18 Indian girls were found during the action on the spa running under the jurisdiction of Umra police.
In an effort to curb the sex racket being run under the guise of spas, the city police will verify the license of the spa clerk in coordination with the municipal corporation. Furthermore, the police will take strict action against the owner who has given the shop or premises on rent if such activities come to the fore. The PI level officer along with the staff will also be able to raid the spa. Residents are encouraged to report any illegal activities to their local police station or to ACP or DCP. Inaction will result in the police commissioner stepping in to take necessary action.
