Vadodara : Authorities Discover Hidden Mobile Device During Routine Check, Investigation Initiated
Vadodara Central Jail has once again come under scrutiny for security lapses after a mobile phone was discovered in Yard No. 2 on Monday. The device was found hidden on an inmate, raising serious concerns about the effectiveness of the jail's internal security protocols.
The discovery was made during a routine check carried out by employees, including Jailor Group-2. Jail Assistant Raj A, who works in Yard No. 2, found the behavior of inmate Ajay Valmikbhai Solanki suspicious and promptly alerted higher-ups. Responding to the alert, the officer on duty, along with a squad, conducted a raid on Yard 2 where they located Solanki and discovered a mobile phone concealed in his waistband. The device had a functioning battery but was without a SIM card.
Upon questioning, Solanki revealed that the mobile phone belonged to another inmate in his yard, identified as Shahnawaz alias Shanu Salim Sheikh. Further interrogation of Sheikh led to the recovery of the SIM card he had in his possession. As a result, both inmates have been implicated, and a case has been filed against them at the Ravpura police station.
The incident has cast doubt on the effectiveness of security measures within Vadodara Central Jail, especially since this is not the first instance where a mobile phone has been found within the facility. The regular occurrence of such discoveries poses significant questions about the management of the institution and the ability of the staff to maintain a secure environment.
