Surat Launches Unique Suggestion Box Initiative to Aid Cloth Merchants Report Crimes
In Partnership with FOSTA, Police Install Complaint Boxes in Markets to Encourage Traders to Report Fraud and Harassment
Surat, India — In a bid to make it easier for cloth merchants to report incidents of fraud and harassment, the Surat Police, in association with the Federation of Surat Textile Traders Association (FOSTA), have launched a unique initiative: installing special complaint suggestion boxes in every textile market across the city.
This experimental move aims to alleviate the hesitation merchants often feel about going to a police station to lodge complaints. The boxes are designed to serve as an accessible point of contact for traders to report their grievances without having to step foot in a police station.
"Traders in Surat's bustling textile markets, which are the backbone of the city's economy, often hesitate to report cheating due to fears of retribution or complications," said Ajay Kumar Tomar, Surat Police Commissioner. He emphasized that this new initiative is an effort to eliminate that fear and enable traders to report fraudulent activities without hesitation.
Surat, home to over 300 textile markets and more than 70,000 shops, is frequently plagued by fraudsters who exploit the traders. These complaint boxes will be regularly monitored, and grievances will be forwarded to both FOSTA and the police for immediate action.
The Commissioner further noted that this initiative is not just about immediate redressal but also aims to create a culture of security and partnership among the police, traders, and the general public. "If we all work together, there will be no room for fraudsters to operate," he added.
By encouraging traders to openly share their concerns, the suggestion boxes are expected to boost their confidence and promote a more secure trading environment. This is seen as a significant step towards establishing a transparent and responsive security framework in one of Surat's most important economic sectors.
