A High-Stakes Dialogue on the Future of Indian Trade to Take Place in Surat, Targeting a $1 Trillion Export Goal

Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya to Discuss Trade and Exports with South Gujarat Industrialists

Surat — The South Gujarat Chamber of Commerce & Industry (SGCCI) is set to host a significant meeting with Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, Union Minister of Chemicals & Fertilizers and Health & Family Welfare, on Saturday, September 2nd, at 4:30 pm. The meeting will be held at Platinum Hall, SIECC Campus, Sarsana, Surat.

The gathering aims to create a roadmap for industrialists detailing what the government expects from them, while also allowing business leaders to express their needs for boosting trade and exports. This dialogue is part of a broader agenda to bolster India's economic growth, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi having set a target of making the country a USD 5 trillion economy by 2017.

Ramesh Vaghasia, President of SGCCI, noted that in line with the Prime Minister's vision, the chamber is making concerted efforts under the banner of SGCCI Global Connect Mission 84 to ramp up exports from the Gujarat region. "We've been given an export target of $1 trillion, and under Mission 84, our focus is to increase contributions from industrialists involved in exporting from not just South Gujarat, but the entire Gujarat region," Vaghasia said.

The SGCCI Global Connect Mission 84 project, launched this year, aims to strengthen India's economy through robust international engagement. An online international platform is under development that will connect 84,000 Gujarat-based businessmen with 84,000 Indian entrepreneurs operating in various countries globally. This initiative aims to provide accurate information on export promotion schemes offered by both the Central and State Governments.

Businesses involved in the manufacturing and exporting of chemicals and fertilizers, textiles, diamonds, gems and jewellery, solar energy, information technology, engineering, and defense products are expected to participate in the dialogue. These industrialists will take a "spontaneous resolution" to increase exports and will be encouraged by the Chamber to do so.

The meeting with Union Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya is a significant step in SGCCI's effort to promote trade and expand the reach of Indian entrepreneurs, helping the nation move closer to its ambitious economic targets.
