Surat, Gujarat—A harrowing incident unfolded yesterday in Surat's Sachin GIDC area, where a stray dog attacked a group of children playing outside, seriously injuring a three-year-old boy named Santosh. The child has been hospitalized with five bite wounds on his head and is reported to be in serious condition.
The Attack
According to the victim's father, Mukesh Mavi, the incident took place around noon when Santosh and six other children were playing outside their home. Without warning, a stray dog launched an attack, singling out Santosh and biting him multiple times on the head. Bystanders who witnessed the terrifying incident immediately intervened, pulling the child away from the dog's jaws. "If people hadn't run to help, my son would have been openly scratched on the road by the dog," Mukesh Mavi said.
Family Background
Mukesh Mavi, originally from Dahod, has been working as a mason in the Sachin GIDC area of Surat for 10 years and supports his wife and four children. The incident has not only left their family devastated but has also spread a palpable sense of fear throughout the community.
Medical Condition and Treatment
Santosh was rushed to Civil Hospital for immediate medical attention. Doctors have stated that the child will need to be hospitalized due to the severity of his injuries. "The dog attacked very seriously, scratching his entire skull. His condition is critical," said medical staff at Civil Hospital.
