A daring robbery attempt at Vaishnodevi Jewelers in Katargam, Surat, was thwarted on Wednesday morning, thanks to the swift action of the shopkeeper and local neighbors.
The incident unfolded at around 9 am when Munikeshbhai Dhruvnarayanbhai Gupta, who runs Vaishnodevi Jewelers at Krishna Complex, Magan Nagar Division-02, opened his shop for the day. Shortly after, four youths entered the shop, posing as customers.
The situation escalated rapidly as one of the individuals pulled out a lighter gun-like weapon, aiming it at Mukesh Gupta, while another drew a knife, threatening the staff with robbery. The quick thinking of the shopkeeper and his alert employees led to shouts for help, attracting a crowd of local residents.
Attempting to flee through the gathering crowd, the four assailants were pursued, leading to the capture of one of them, Taufiq Naseerbhai Makwana. The police were promptly informed and arrived at the scene, leading to the arrest of the captured youth.
Upon interrogation, the police were able to quickly apprehend the remaining accomplices who had managed to escape initially. The incident stands as a testament to the vigilance of the shopkeeper and the bravery of the employees and neighbors, who collectively averted a potentially dangerous robbery.
