SURAT, India – The much-anticipated Rakhi Mela, an annual event organized by Surat Municipal Corporation, was inaugurated today in the bustling locality of Singanpur. With a clear focus on supporting women's economic empowerment, the Rakhi stalls have been divided into different zones, offering a platform for women to earn income by selling self-made products like Rakhi, clothes, and jewelry.

Empowering Women Through Enterprise

The fair was inaugurated by Mayor Hemala Boghavala, Municipal Commissioner Shalini Aggarwal, and other officials of Surat Municipal Corporation. The event aims to foster self-sufficiency among women by providing opportunities to the didis (sisters) of Sakhi Mandal and other self-help groups. Various schemes run by the central and state governments are being harnessed to achieve this purpose.

“Women will earn money by selling Rakhi and other items here, which will directly benefit their families,” said Mayor Boghavala during the inauguration ceremony.

Continuing the Vision of Self-Sufficient Women

Municipal Commissioner Shalini Aggarwal highlighted the continuation of the initiative started by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Gujarat. By utilizing funds provided by both the state and central governments, women are given opportunities to showcase their skills and talents.

“In the Rakhi fair, women will distribute self-made clothes, rakhis, studded jewelry to adorn the God. Rakhi fair will start in different zones of the city,” stated Aggarwal. She further assured that necessary arrangements have been made to ensure that the women do not face any kind of trouble and can earn a respectable amount from the fair.

With the goal of becoming self-sufficient, the women participating in this year's Rakhi Mela are a symbol of resilience and determination. The event not only celebrates the festive spirit of Rakhi but also plays a crucial role in the broader mission of women empowerment and financial independence in the region. The Rakhi Mela is expected to attract a significant crowd, reflecting the community's support for this noble cause.
