Surat: Key Weir-Cum-Causeway Road Reopened After 50 Days
Rander and Katargam Residents Find Relief as Water Level of Tapi River Decreases, Resuming Vital Traffic Connection
SURAT – The weir-cum-causeway road that connects Rander and Katargam was submerged and subsequently closed due to heavy rains during the first round of the monsoon season in Surat. After 50 days, the causeway has been reopened to the public, providing much-needed relief to the residents of Rander and Katargam.
The closure of the causeway on June 29 was prompted by a significant rise in the water level of the Tapi river, which exceeded the danger level of 6 metres. This essential connector became impassable, leading to traffic challenges and inconveniences for the local community.
Despite heavy rainfall during the initial phases, the rains ceased in the past two weeks, leading to a decrease in the water level of the Tapi river. Currently, the water level at the causeway has receded to 5.67 metres, allowing the administration to safely reopen the causeway for traffic.
This reopening signifies more than mere traffic facilitation. The road from Rander Adajan Gort to Singanpur Char Rasta to Katargam holds vital importance, and its closure had resulted in significant problems for motorists. Traffic was further affected by the operation of the Metro from Mughalisara to Adajan via Nehru Bridge.
With the road now open, the people of Katargam and Rander can finally breathe a sigh of relief. The restoration of this vital link has eased the daily commutes of residents and ensured the return of normalcy in a region heavily affected by the monsoon rains.
