Surat's legacy of organ donation grows as the family of a 58-year-old financier donates his organs, breathing life into five individuals; City Police create Green Corridor for swift transportation.
Surat, renowned for its cloth and diamond industries, is now making a name as a hub for organ donation in India. In a recent incident, a 58-year-old financier's family has given the ultimate gift of life to five people by donating his organs after he was declared brain-dead. The organs were transported through a Green Corridor created by the Surat City Police to ensure timely delivery.
The Tragic Loss and Noble Decision
Hasmukhbhai Manilal Sanghvi, a resident originally from Mehsana and associated with Toral Apartment Finance business at Nanpura, Surat, collapsed on the night of 15th August, suffering from a headache and vomiting. Subsequent tests revealed brain hemorrhage, leading to his declaration as brain-dead on 16th August.
The Donate Life team reached out to Hasmukhbhai's family, explaining the importance and process of organ donation. His daughter, Ayushi, along with other family members, agreed to donate his organs. Ayushi noted that since her father's death was inevitable, they decided to give life to others by donating his organs.
The Organ Transplantation Process
With the family's consent, Hasmukhbhai's liver was allocated to KD Hospital in Ahmedabad. Additionally, his two kidneys will be transplanted into needy patients at a hospital in Ahmedabad. His eyes were accepted by Lok Drishti Eye Bank.
The liver was successfully transplanted at KD Hospital in Ahmedabad into a 30-year-old resident of Indore.
Green Corridor: A Lifeline for the Needy
The Surat City Police played a crucial role by creating a Green Corridor from Mahaveer Hospital to Surat Airport, ensuring the rapid airlift of the liver and kidneys to Ahmedabad. Impressively, 104 Green Corridors have been created so far by the Surat City Police to transport vital organs across the country.
A City with a Heart
This noble act adds to Surat's growing reputation as a city with compassion and a willingness to help those in need. The coordinated efforts of medical professionals, law enforcement, and the bereaved family have made a profound difference in the lives of five individuals.
The story of Hasmukhbhai and his family's selfless decision underscores the profound impact of organ donation and stands as an inspiring example for others to follow. In the face of personal loss, they have managed to bring hope and life to others, solidifying Surat's status as a leading organ donor city in India.
