Surat Cyber Crime Cell Restores Rs 55 Lakh to Fraud Victims

Surat : As cybercrime continues to pose threats to digital users, Surat's proactive measures ensure victims see justice. Through the 'Tera Tujhko Arpan' initiative led by Surat Police Commissioner Ajay Kumar Tomar, a remarkable sum of Rs 55,39,361 was restored directly to the accounts of victims on August 11.

This significant achievement comes on the heels of rigorous efforts by the Surat Cyber Crime Cell, which acted swiftly on complaints registered via the helpline number 1930. Collaborating with CID Crime Gandhinagar and multiple banks, the unit managed to freeze illicitly obtained funds before they could be withdrawn by fraudsters.

After the establishment of a new cybercrime police station by the Surat Police Commissioner, victims of online scams increasingly turned to the authorities for help. The quick response mechanisms implemented led to the freezing of online payments linked to fraud cases, resulting in the preservation of substantial amounts. The court subsequently mandated the return of these funds to the rightful owners.

Between January 2020 and June 2022, the Cyber Crime Helpline No. 1930 witnessed the registration of multiple complaints, eventually leading to the reimbursement of 859 affected individuals. Moreover, in the span from 2021 to 2023, 58 cases of financial fraud culminated in the arrest of both local and international criminals and the recovery of an impressive Rs 2,72,62,000. In cases where victims immediately reached out to the cybercrime cell, Rs 1,30,97,200 was reinstated to 135 citizens within a mere 24 hours. From 2020 to 2023, a total of 1,055 cybercrime cases have been documented, reflecting the pervasive nature of this modern threat.
