Vadodara Takes Action Against Littering with CCTV Surveillance

Vadodara: In a determined effort to keep the city clean, the Vadodara Municipal Corporation is now leveraging technology to tackle littering. With CCTV cameras strategically placed at various city junctions, particularly around the Vishwamitri river, the corporation is actively monitoring and penalizing those who discard garbage from moving vehicles or spit on roads.

Using the video footage, the corporation identifies the litterbugs based on their vehicle number plates, cross-referencing the details with the Regional Transport Office (RTO) database. Offenders are then issued notices and fines.

This initiative has already yielded results. "Recently, we identified and fined 17 individuals for spitting in public spaces based on our CCTV surveillance," the corporation shared in a statement.

The chairman of the standing committee mentioned that this drive is part of a larger cleanliness campaign that has been active for several years. "We've directed all administrative ward officers to issue fine receipts to offenders. The public is constantly reminded not to spit or litter on roads," he stated.

The corporation has also encouraged citizens to utilize door-to-door garbage collection services, emphasizing the prohibition against discarding waste in open areas. However, despite these appeals and measures, some residents continue to litter, especially at the Vishwamitri River. The new CCTV-driven initiative aims to deter such behavior by holding individuals accountable for their actions.
