Woman in Surat Bitten by Young Russell's Viper; Now in Stable Condition

Surat - Rainy seasons often bring an increased visibility of reptiles, and for Jyotsna Ben Patel, an unsuspecting day at her farm in Olpad turned alarming when she was bitten by a snake. Recognized as a young Russell's viper, one of the most venomous species, the incident triggered swift action from her family.

Her husband, employed at L&T, immediately transported her to Surat Civil Hospital along with the deceased snake. On arrival, the medical staff, though initially concerned, quickly identified the snake as a juvenile Russell's viper. The bite was localized to one of her fingers.

The hospital's medical team offered reassurance to the distressed couple, explaining that the snake's young age had likely reduced the potency of its venom. "There's no immediate cause for concern," one of the doctors commented, adding that while the patient's health appears stable, she would remain under observation for the next 24 hours as a precautionary measure.

The hospital staff also emphasized the importance of bringing in the snake, as its identification significantly aids in administering the correct treatment. They are now awaiting some test results from sent samples to further validate their approach to care.

The incident serves as a reminder of the risks posed by venomous reptiles, especially during wetter months, and the importance of prompt medical attention in such situations.
