Celebrating National Organ Donation Day: Farmer's Selfless Gift Benefits Three in Surat

Surat, August 3rd: The essence of National Organ Donation Day was felt deeply in Surat as the New Civil Hospital witnessed a significant act of kindness. The organs of the late Rohitbhai Ramubhai Patel, a resident of Chari village in Chikhli, provided a new lease of life to three individuals in dire need.

Rohitbhai, 55, met with an unfortunate incident on August 1st when he felt a sudden panic while riding his bike to Muli village. Despite initial aid from a good Samaritan and preliminary treatment at Spandan Hospital, his condition worsened, leading to a transfer to New Civil Hospital in Surat. Tragically, he was declared brain-dead on the morning of August 3rd.

When approached by the Soto's team about the possibility of organ donation, the Patel family, despite their grief, embraced the idea of turning their loss into hope for others. Alkaben, Rohitbhai's daughter, and an employee at Fleur Pen Company, emphasized that donating her father's organs would serve as the most fitting tribute to him.

On the same day, Rohitbhai's kidneys and liver were promptly transported to IKD Hospital in Ahmedabad. This marked the 39th organ donation facilitated by the New Civil Hospital. Dr. Govekar, representing the hospital, expressed profound gratitude to the Patel family, commending their inspiring gesture on National Organ Donation Day.

Till now, the diligent efforts of New Civil Hospital's administration have facilitated the donation of 133 organs. This includes 74 kidneys, 35 livers, 10 eyes, 3 hearts, 7 hands, 3 intestines, and a pancreas. Through these contributions, countless lives have been transformed, reiterating the profound impact of organ donation.
