Surat : Garlic Heist Solved: Police Arrest Two Suspects

SURAT: Vegetable thefts have become an emerging trend as soaring prices make them appealing targets for smugglers. Recently, a shocking garlic theft in the Limbayat area of Surat was reported, where garlic valued at Rs 1.37 lakh was stolen. The police have now made a breakthrough, arresting two individuals connected to the crime.

Ravi Pawar, a resident of Shivdarshan Society in Limbayat and a long-standing garlic trader, was the unfortunate victim of this theft. Having been in the garlic business for over two decades, Pawar stored 31 sacks, totaling 836 kg of garlic, near his home. In a daring move, thieves stole approximately 30 of these sacks in the wee hours of 23rd July, using a rickshaw initially and later transferring the stolen goods into a tempo to make their escape.

Limbayat police swiftly acted on the theft complaint and launched an investigation. Crucial to this was CCTV footage that captured the entire incident. The footage displayed four individuals engaging in the theft, clearly showing them transporting the stolen garlic first into a rickshaw and later into a tempo.

Utilizing this evidence, the Limbayat police have successfully arrested two of the accused, Govind Chunara and Rajkumar Ahir. Both the rickshaw and tempo have been confiscated, with the stolen garlic also recovered.

This incident underscores the unexpected challenges faced by local law enforcement as thieves adjust their targets in line with market dynamics.
