Surat: Accused of robbing an elderly couple in broad daylight of Rs 7 lakh arrested
four others still at large with stolen cash worth Rs 7 lakh
The Rander police have arrested one of the accused involved in the robbery of an elderly couple who were held hostage and robbed of Rs 7 lakh in cash on February 21. The robbery took place in the congested area near Prime Arcade in Surat's Adajan. Four other accused are yet to be arrested, and the police have started raids to apprehend them and recover the stolen money.
Retired Navyug College professor Shivram Kashiram Patel (72) and his wife Nitaben were tied up at knife-point by five robbers who looted the cash from their home. Mohammad Ubaid Lal Mohanchand Siddiqui, a resident of Hanuman Mohalla of Limbayat, has been arrested and has confessed to the robbery. He revealed the names of four others involved in the crime, and the police are investigating their whereabouts.
The mastermind of the gang, Soyeb alias CT, who is on interim bail in another crime, has absconded with most of the stolen cash. The police suspect that Soyeb was informed by a local person. The police are investigating the case and are making efforts to recover the stolen money.
The incident highlights the need for increased security measures in congested areas and the importance of reporting suspicious behavior to the authorities. Residents must take necessary precautions to avoid becoming victims of such incidents.
