Selfie Tragedy in Surat Leads to Life-Giving Organ Donation
Father of the deceased youth donates eyes and kidneys, offering a second chance to four individuals
Surat - Known as the "organ-donor city," Surat witnesses an average of two organ donations from grieving families each week. In a recent heart-wrenching incident, a young man fell from the first floor while taking a selfie during a friend's birthday celebration. Sadly, Neeraj Mishra was declared brain dead following the accident. In a touching display of generosity and humanity, his father, Bhaiyalal Mishra, decided to donate Neeraj's eyes and kidneys, offering a fresh lease on life to four recipients.
On the evening of July 17, Neeraj had been at the SMC shopping center opposite Suryodaya School in the Bhestan area. Tragically, while attempting to capture a selfie, he lost his balance and fell. Emergency services promptly transported him to Civil Hospital.
Despite the best efforts of the medical team, including Neurosurgeon Dr. Jai Patel and Neuro Physician Dr. Keyur Prajapati, Neeraj couldn't be saved. The hospital staff, understanding the potential impact of organ donation, approached Bhaiyalal Mishra, who works in a loom factory, and highlighted the significance of such a noble act.
Neeraj's eyes will be utilized by the Eye Bank New Civil Hospital, while both kidneys will find recipients at the IKD Hospital in Ahmedabad. This poignant act marked the 34th organ donation facilitated by Navi Civil, with hospital staff and the Gujarat Nursing Council playing crucial roles in ensuring the process's success.
