Udhna-Surat Railway Expansion: Third Track Ready to Launch in July
Anticipated Improvement in Train Movement Expected as Third Rail Line Set to Open
UDHNA - The long-awaited third railway track between Udhna and Surat, stretching five kilometers, is set to begin operations in July, promising improved train movement and reduced delays.
Inspected just last month, the third line is under continuous monitoring and maintenance by R.R.T machinery. The construction of this track initially began in July 2018, but faced delays due to the Corona epidemic. Now, the track is fully operational and ready for use, with additional inspections potentially forthcoming from Mumbai-based officers.
According to railway sources, the completion of the third line will significantly streamline the movement of trains traveling between Surat and major cities like Mumbai and Delhi. It is expected that the additional track will accommodate the Tapti line trains, reducing the standing time for trains in the siding and facilitating a more rapid movement of trains.
Currently, only two tracks service the Surat-Udhna route, which sees more than 150 passenger trains passing daily. All these trains, on the route between Delhi-Mumbai, bypass Surat. Among them, 39 trains are rerouted from Surat-Udhna to Jalgaon and Tapti lines, often resulting in mainline trains being halted midway. Trains on the Tapti line are dispatched after parsing, a process that can take between 15 to 20 minutes. The introduction of the third line is anticipated to resolve these delays, enabling more efficient train operations.
