Surat: The extensive textile industries of Surat have long relied on the Federation of Surat Textile Traders Association (FOSTA) to address their concerns and provide representation. After a lengthy hiatus of twelve years, FOSTA is now slated to hold elections on July 8th. This much-anticipated event was marked by a bustling activity on Wednesday, the last day for filing nominations, with 94 candidates stepping forward for 41 seats.
The impending FOSTA elections have stirred excitement among the textile traders, sparking an early election fervor across the markets. The final day of nominations turned into a spectacle as candidates, accompanied by enthusiastic supporters and the rhythmic beat of drums, submitted their forms.

Kailash Hakim, a contender in the upcoming election, expressed his satisfaction over the democratic process finally taking shape. "Our demands have been met at last," Hakim stated, referring to the prolonged efforts by traders to initiate the elections. Hakim, who submitted his nomination amidst a wave of supporter enthusiasm, extended his well-wishes to all the contenders, emphasizing the importance of addressing and resolving business issues democratically. "Surat's textile industry is making significant strides on the global stage. With robust leadership, we can fuel even faster growth," he added.
FOSTA election officials confirmed that while candidates took forms until the last day, only 94 were returned filled out. The nomination papers for the 41 seats will now undergo a two-day scrutiny process. Candidates can withdraw their nominations until June 19, with the final list of contenders set to be announced on June 20. The election will take place on July 8th in the Vankar Textile Market.
