Modi and Indonesia's President launch Prambanan Temple restoration project

Yogyakarta, July 8. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Indonesia's President Prabowo Subianto jointly launched the conservation and restoration project of the world-famous Prambanan Temple complex in Yogyakarta, Indonesia.

This temple complex, included in the UNESCO World Heritage List, is the largest Hindu temple in Indonesia. The 10th-century historical heritage site dedicated to Lord Shiva is considered an important symbol of the shared cultural relations between India and Indonesia. On the occasion of the project's launch, Prime Minister Modi expressed his fortune in having the opportunity to serve and preserve sacred sites associated with Lord Shiva multiple times in his life.

He mentioned that he was born in Vadnagar, Gujarat, where the famous pilgrimage site of Haatkeshwar Mahadev is located. The first of the twelve Jyotirlingas, Somnath, is also situated in Gujarat, where he had the opportunity to play a direct role in its development. He stated that Kashi Vishwanath has also been the center of his political life, where he has continuously received blessings from Baba Vishwanath.

Prime Minister Modi expressed that it is a great fortune for him to initiate the restoration work of this great cultural heritage associated with Brahma, Vishnu, and Mahesh, which is nearly 1000 to 1200 years old, following the reconstruction of Kedarnath Dham and the development of Mahakal in Ujjain. He felt fortunate to witness this historic occasion. Modi noted that even on the third day of his visit to Indonesia, he felt the same fragrance of Indian culture in the air and life of the people here as he experiences on Indian soil.

He expressed gratitude to the people of Indonesia and all those who have ruled here over different periods for preserving this heritage for nearly 1200 years. He remarked that whether it is the journey from Lhasa to Kailash Mansarovar or the sacred Prambanan Temple in Indonesia, the Mahamrityunjaya mantra and 'Om Namah Shivaya' can be heard at every place. He described this sight as extremely emotional.

He expressed confidence that after the restoration of this grand temple complex as a World Heritage Site, a large number of Indian devotees and tourists will come to visit. He stated that no matter where one goes in the world, glimpses of India's cultural heritage are always visible. Prambanan Temple is one of the most significant representations of Indian cultural heritage in Southeast Asia.

The temple complex houses idols of Lord Shiva, Mother Durga, and Lord Ganesha, and has been a site of deep faith and worship for centuries. Prime Minister Modi mentioned that he had the privilege of visiting and worshipping at this temple, which he described as one of the most vibrant and unforgettable moments of his life.

He prayed for the strengthening of friendship between India and Indonesia, the welfare of both nations' citizens, and the rapid development of both countries. He expressed confidence that the restoration project would be completed before 2029, and after its completion, he would definitely return to visit the Prambanan Temple.
