Vadodara Municipal Corporation Scraps Dog Tax

Mayor announces decision to cancel controversial tax after issue reaches CM office

Vadodara Municipal Corporation Scraps Dog Tax

The Vadodara Municipal Corporation has finally decided to withdraw the dog tax, which was proposed to be levied on pet owners. The Mayor, Keur Rokadia, made the announcement in a meeting of the Municipal Corporation, stating that the tax had only been collected from a few pet owners over the last three to four years. The proposed tax, which was set at Rs. 1,500 for a period of three years, had faced opposition and hidden resentment from the public.

The opposition BJP corporator, Bandish Shah, suggested that if a tax was to be collected for keeping dogs, the money should be used to create a separate garden for dogs to play in.

The issue of the dog tax reached the Chief Minister's Office in Gandhinagar, prompting Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel to phone the Vadodara Mayor and ask for details about the proposed tax. The Mayor has now announced the decision to withdraw the dog tax after the issue reached the CM's office.
