Vadodara Youth Falls Victim to Online Job Scam
Fraudsters Extort Rs 1.95 Lakh Posing as YouTube Promotion Employers
VADODARA – The trend of online job scams continues to plague Vadodara, with more young individuals being ensnared by the prospect of earning substantial income through online work. In a recent incident, a city resident was swindled out of Rs 1.95 lakh by online fraudsters.
A local young man, Uvesh, residing in Tandalja, was duped by a lucrative offer of an online job to promote YouTube clients. The fraudsters promised that this job wouldn't interfere with his regular work and would generate a substantial income. The proposition entailed recruiting 30 to 40 people daily for subscriptions, with an enticing payout of Rs 150 per subscription.
To win his trust initially, the fraudsters paid Uvesh some amount. He was also shown fraudulent data detailing the benefits and compensations he was supposedly accruing. To further legitimize the scheme, Uvesh was added to a so-called VIP group and was persuaded to deposit money in exchange for tasks.
In total, the young man transferred Rs 1.95 lakh, enticed by the false promise of receiving Rs 2.90 lakh in return from the company as compensation. However, when the promised payment was not made, Uvesh grew suspicious and reported the matter to the cyber cell.
This latest incident underscores the necessity for individuals to be vigilant against such fraudulent schemes promising high returns from online work. Authorities are urging the public to verify the legitimacy of any online job offers before providing personal information or transferring funds.
