The Vadodara division of Western Railway achieved a significant milestone in freight transportation by successfully loading the first mini BCN fertilizer rake from Dahej Adani Port Siding to Latur. Dahej Adani Port Siding has primarily been known as a coal loading center, making this fertilizer loading a historic achievement for the division.
Under the proficient leadership of Divisional Railway Manager Raju Bhadke, this step is a crucial initiative towards maximizing the use of available infrastructure and attracting new freight traffic. The foundation for this achievement was laid during Raju Bhadke's inspection of the siding in December 2025, where he discussed in detail the better utilization of the siding's capacity to attract new types of freight traffic. In this context, the decision was made to start fertilizer loading from the coal siding, which has now come to fruition.
According to a press release issued by Western Railway's Public Relations Officer Anubhav Saxena, the first fertilizer rake dispatched from Dahej Adani Port to Latur on June 4, 2026, utilized a mini BCN rake with 21 wagons. This rake will cover a distance of approximately 926 kilometers, and this transportation will generate freight revenue of about Rs. 20.54 lakh for the division.
This consignment of imported fertilizer will play a crucial role in meeting the agricultural sector's needs in a timely and secure manner. The successful dispatch of the first fertilizer rake to Latur not only reflects the commercial vision and innovation of the Vadodara division but also demonstrates that new business opportunities can be created using existing railway assets.
