Surat: Ashok Jirawala Elected Unopposed as the Next President of SGCCI

Ashok Jirawala, the current vice president, has been declared elected unopposed as the next president of the South Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SGCCI). On the last date for filing nominations, May 8, 2026, only one nomination was received for the president's position, leading election officer Vijay Mevawala to announce his unopposed election.

According to the chamber's tradition, the vice president assumes the role of the next president. Following this tradition, Ashok Jirawala filed his nomination for the president's position, and with no other candidates coming forward, his unopposed selection was confirmed. After his election as the new president of the chamber, the election officer, current president, and supporters extended their best wishes to him.

Meanwhile, the competition for the vice president position has become interesting, with a total of six candidates filing nominations. These include CA Mitesh Modi, Ravi Raj Desai, Bharat Vanawala, Manish Kapadia, Nitin Bharucha, and Bijal Jarivala. Election officer Vijay Mevawala informed that the election for the vice president position will be held on May 24, Sunday.

However, according to the chamber's rules, candidates can withdraw their nominations until the day before the voting. As a result, discussions regarding potential agreements and withdrawals are intensifying in the coming days.

Sources indicate that meetings and lobbying in the chamber's politics are currently at their peak. All eyes are now on which candidates remain in the electoral race until the end and whether any agreement can be reached before the voting.
