Surat: DGVCIL to Celebrate 'Solar Month' in May 2026, 'PM Surya Ghar' Scheme to Get a Boost
Surat. The South Gujarat Vij (Electricity) Company Limited (DGVCIL) will celebrate 'Solar Month' in May 2026.
This campaign is being organized under the central government's ambitious 'PM Surya Ghar: Free Electricity Scheme', aimed at connecting more domestic consumers to rooftop solar systems. The Government of India launched the 'PM Surya Ghar: Free Electricity Scheme' on February 13, 2024, with a target of installing rooftop solar systems in one crore homes across the country. The scheme, which has an estimated cost of ₹75,021 crore, provides central financial assistance of up to ₹78,000 per consumer for rooftop installations of up to three kilowatts.
Considering the increasing demand for electricity during the summer and the greater availability of solar energy, May 2026 has been declared a special campaign month. The objective is to raise awareness about solar energy among the public and to benefit as many consumers as possible from the scheme. The campaign will focus on four key points: receiving more applications on the 'PM Surya Ghar' national portal, expediting the rooftop solar installation process, promptly addressing pending inspections, and registering a larger number of vendors.
Awareness programs will also be organized among domestic consumers, residential welfare associations, and group housing societies. Special efforts will be made by registered vendors to accelerate the installation work. Based on the performance in May 2026, the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy of the central government will also reward states and union territories in various categories, including the highest number of applications, installations, inspections, and vendor registrations.
The South Gujarat Vij (Electricity) Company Limited has appealed to all electricity consumers to take maximum advantage of the scheme. Consumers can visit DGVCIL's official website or contact customer care at 19123 for more information related to the scheme. According to the company, this scheme will significantly reduce consumers' electricity bills and help Gujarat rank among the better-performing states at the national level.
