Initiative to Strengthen Surat-Mumbai Textile Trade, Important Meeting Held at FOSTA

A significant meeting was held on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, at 11:00 AM at the FOSTA office to provide a new direction to the textile trade in Surat. During this meeting, officials from the Market Silk Merchant Association in Mumbai met with FOSTA representatives to discuss business development.

Present at the meeting were FOSTA General Secretary Dinesh Kataria, Vice President of the Mumbai Association Harshadbhai Shah, Secretary Ashwin Malkan, and committee member Atush Mehta. The main objective of the meeting was to enhance coordination between the textile trade of Surat and Mumbai and to develop a joint strategy for resolving trade-related issues. Important topics discussed included current business conditions, payment security for traders, and establishing better coordination with various government departments.

Special attention was also given to issues related to GST. There was agreement on a proposal to raise the GST limit on garments priced above ₹2499 from 18% to ₹7500, and it was decided to make the necessary presentation to the government regarding this. Additionally, discussions were held on creating a joint network or group with textile organizations from Mumbai and other cities, aimed at controlling fraudulent elements and strengthening payment security for traders.

FOSTA has previously established dialogue with various textile organizations in Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Kolkata. The organization is continuously working to enhance coordination with trade groups across the country for the overall development of the textile industry.
