Major Approval for Infrastructure in Surat: ₹364 Crore to Accelerate Construction of 5 Bridges and Highway Widening

Surat. Major infrastructure projects have been approved to improve traffic and connectivity in the city and surrounding industrial areas.

Under the guidance of C. R. Patil, the Minister of Water Power of the Government of India, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has approved the construction of a total of 5 new bridges and the widening of an important highway in the Surat region.

According to Sanjay Yadav, Project Director of NHAI's Surat unit, bridges will be constructed at a total of five locations, including Khajod, Abhwa, Hazira-Kawas intersection (near Reliance company gate), and Ubhraat-Surat road (near the Mindhola river). The estimated cost of these projects is ₹332 crore. Additionally, ₹32 crore has been allocated for the widening of the national highway from Hazira to Ichhpur.

A consultation meeting was held at the NHAI office to discuss the progress of these projects and address local issues. The meeting specifically focused on the increasing traffic problems and accidents in the Sachin GIDC area, particularly the traffic jams at Sachin Gate-1 and the accidents occurring at Gate-2. In this regard, leaders of the Sachin Industrial Society—Mayur Golwala, Mitul Mehta, Nilesh Gami, and Kishor Patel—submitted a memorandum to MLA Sandipbhai Desai, which led to the convening of this meeting.

NHAI manager Ajay Soni and Sachin GIDC Society president Kishorbhai Patel were also present at the meeting. Officials assured that issues related to traffic management and safety would be resolved promptly. After the completion of these projects, it is expected that traffic in Surat's industrial areas will become smoother, along with a new boost to economic activities.
