Surat: 'Gau Samman Aahwan Abhiyan' to be held in Gujarat on May 7 with millions of signatures to be submitted
A nationwide awareness campaign for cow protection will see the 'Gau Samman Aahwan Abhiyan' organized in Gujarat on May 7, 2026. A memorandum with millions of signatures will be submitted to the President, Prime Minister, and Governor through the district collector.
Approximately six months ago, a religious gathering of saints in Vrindavan reached a consensus to prioritize cow protection after discussions on various religious topics. In this context, signatures were collected and memorandums were submitted in various districts across the country on April 27. Due to local body elections in Gujarat, this program is now scheduled for May 7.
At a press conference held on Tuesday, Kapila Didi, dedicated to cow protection, stated that national security is not possible without cow protection. She mentioned that extensive efforts are being made for the protection of cattle through public awareness. According to her, there were about 820 million cattle in the country at the time of independence, which has now decreased to around 70-80 million.
She reported that petitions have already been submitted in about 4,500 districts across the country on April 27, while the campaign will take place in all districts of Gujarat on May 7. The memorandum includes three main demands: a central law for cow protection, national recognition for cow mothers similar to the national animal lion and national bird peacock, and the establishment of a Ministry of Animal Husbandry at the central level. Kapila Didi expressed confidence that the government would make a positive decision on this issue under the leadership of the Prime Minister.
She emphasized that cow mothers are the soul of India and their protection is essential for national security. Meanwhile, cow devotee Arun Patodia has appealed to the citizens of Surat to join the rally starting at 9:30 AM on Thursday from Millennium Market, Ring Road, to make the campaign successful. This rally will pass through various areas and reach Vanita Vishram, where at 11 AM, a memorandum with 500,000 signatures will be submitted to the district collector using bullock carts and other means.
Dinesh Sharma (Beard) and Lalit Sharma, associated with the campaign, mentioned that around 50,000 cow devotees, including major industrialists, are expected to participate in this event. All participants will reach the collector's office with cow hymns from Vanita Vishram.
