Demand for Daily Train Services Amid Growing Crowds in Surat-Udhna
In light of the increasing passenger crowd at Surat and Udhna railway stations over the past two years, the Bihar Development Board has raised the demand for important rail services to be operated daily instead of weekly. Board President Prabhu Nath Yadav, General Secretary Banke Bihari Singh, and members Pintu Pandey and Chandrakant Yadav submitted this proposal to the Railway Minister through MP Mukeshbhai Dalal.
The board specifically requested that train number 19051 Shramik Express and 19053 Surat-Muzaffarpur Express be operated daily. Additionally, there is a need to increase the reservation quota and emergency quota for train number 19037 Awadh Express from Surat. The release stated that over 2 million workers and traders from northeastern Uttar Pradesh and Bihar are employed in industrial areas such as Surat, Kim, Ankleshwar, Bharuch, Valsad, and Vapi.
During festivals and events like Durga Puja, Diwali, Chhath, Holi, Ram Navami, and weddings, there is a significant influx of people from these areas, leading to overcrowding at Surat and Udhna stations. The board suggested that the 19051 Shramik Express, currently operating weekly from Valsad to Muzaffarpur, be run daily via Aundihar, Mau, Salempur, Bhatni, Siwan. Similarly, it proposed extending the route of the 19053 Surat-Muzaffarpur Express to provide daily service through Barabanki, Gonda, Basti, Gorakhpur, Kaptanganj, and Chhapra or alternatively via Bettiah and Motihari.
This initiative is expected to directly benefit millions of passengers from Gorakhpur, Deoria, Kushinagar, and both West and East Champaran in Purvanchal and Bihar. MP Mukeshbhai Dalal assured the delegation that he would prioritize this issue with the Railway Minister to provide relief to passengers soon.
