Trump Orders Continuation of Iran Blockade
Amid stalled talks between the U.S. And Iran, President Donald Trump has directed his administration to continue the blockade against Iran.
According to local media, during a meeting with top security officials at the White House on Monday, Trump decided to maintain pressure on Iran's economy and oil exports. This includes a strategy to completely halt the movement of ships from Iranian ports. As per a report from the Wall Street Journal, Trump is currently not inclined to abandon his demand that Iran pledge to suspend its nuclear enrichment for at least 20 years and accept strict sanctions thereafter.
Trump told his associates that Iran's three-phase proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and leave nuclear talks for later discussions demonstrates that Iran is not negotiating in good faith. White House spokesperson Anna Kelly stated that the U.S. Has achieved its military objectives in the conflict with Iran.
She mentioned that due to the successful blockade of Iranian ports, the U.S. Is now in a position of maximum advantage. The report also noted that the continuation of the blockade is prolonging the conflict, leading to an increase in gas prices, which is affecting Trump's popularity and the Republican Party's prospects in the midterm elections.
It is noteworthy that since the major attacks by the U.S. And Israel on Iran on February 28, maritime transport through the Strait of Hormuz has reached its lowest level.
