Surat: Fake Ghee Factory Busted in Sachin GIDC, Over 2000 Kilograms of Goods Seized
The Special Operation Group (SOG) of the police has uncovered a fake ghee factory operating in the Sachin GIDC area of Surat, as part of a major crackdown on adulterated food products. The unit, named 'Sabka Foods', was producing adulterated ghee on a large scale for market supply.
The investigation revealed that the accused were mixing vegetable ghee, palm oil, and chemical essence with just 1 kilogram of pure ghee to produce about 15 kilograms of fake ghee. The mixture was colored and scented in such a way that it resembled and smelled like real desi ghee. The police seized over 2000 kilograms of suspicious ghee, machinery worth millions of rupees, and approximately 3.581 million rupees in cash from the site.
Additionally, a large quantity of packaging materials, branded stickers, and containers were also recovered. This fake ghee was being sold under the 'Vidur' brand and was supplied not only in Surat but also to other districts in Gujarat and neighboring states. It was packaged in sizes ranging from small 100 ml pouches to large 15 kg cans.
The names of two main accused, Bharat Polra and Ameen Vadhwania, have emerged, who had established this network in an organized manner through laborers. The accused had also obtained a food safety license to give an impression of legitimacy. During the raid, officials from the Food and Drugs Department were called to the site to collect samples, which have been sent to the lab for testing.
Preliminary information suggests that such adulterated ghee could lead to serious health issues over time. The police have registered a case against the accused under relevant sections and are now searching for other traders connected to this entire network.
