Surat Municipal Corporation Elections: Last Chance to Withdraw Nominations, Picture Will Be Clear by Wednesday Evening
Surat. Today, Wednesday, is the last date for withdrawing nominations for the Surat Municipal Corporation elections, after which the electoral picture will be completely clear by evening.
The competition for the total of 120 seats across 30 wards of the Surat Municipal Corporation is becoming interesting this time. A total of 1,059 nomination forms were filled under the election process, out of which 561 forms were canceled after verification. Now, a total of 499 candidates remain in the electoral fray, including candidates from the Bharatiya Janata Party, Congress, Aam Aadmi Party, other parties, and independent candidates.
After verification, 120 nominations from the Bharatiya Janata Party, 119 from the Indian National Congress, and 111 from the Aam Aadmi Party were accepted. Additionally, there are 148 candidates from other parties and independents in the race. During the form verification process, one Congress and three AAP candidates had their nominations canceled due to various technical reasons.
All eyes are now on today's final date, as many candidates may withdraw their names at the last moment. Sources indicate that various political parties are intensifying efforts to persuade independent candidates to withdraw from the elections. It will only be clear after the withdrawal process is completed who the final contenders will be.
