Surat Mayor Inaugurates a Rs 1 Crore Shelter Home in Katargam

Surat: A state-of-the-art shelter home for the homeless, constructed at a cost of Rs 1 crore, has been inaugurated in the Katargam district of Surat by Mayor Hemaliben Boghwala. This facility, comprising a total of 156 beds, was inaugurated on Saturday, underlining the city's commitment to uplift the destitute.

The shelter home is a part of the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana-National Urban Livelihood Mission, an initiative aimed at improving the lives of the underprivileged in urban areas. Located in front of Katargam Waterworks, the shelter home is a beacon of hope for the homeless.

Notably, the shelter home isn't just a place to sleep; it's a holistic haven designed for comfort and convenience. Beyond the 156 beds, it also offers cooking facilities, potable water, and other necessary arrangements to ensure a hassle-free stay for the inhabitants.

During the inauguration, Mayor Hemaliben Boghwala highlighted the value of the new shelter home. She emphasized that this new facility, equipped with cooking facilities and a water supply, has been constructed for those in need. "I am optimistic that this facility will be utilized effectively and will bring meaningful change in the lives of the destitute," she said, underlining her commitment to ensure that no one in Surat is forced to sleep on the streets.
