Asha Bhosle's role in 'Mai' moved audiences to tears, learn special details about her debut film
Asha Bhosle's fans are saddened by her passing. She sang over 12,000 songs in various languages and was recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records for the most recordings in music history.
However, few know that she also ventured into acting. In her debut film, the Marathi movie 'Mai', she played the role of a mother suffering from Alzheimer's disease who struggles to remember things. In the film, her son, played by Ram Kapoor, decides to leave her in a nursing home, while her daughter, Padmini Kolhapure, takes care of her.
The film beautifully portrays the fabric of life and the changing attitudes of children towards the elderly. This film was particularly special for Asha Bhosle as it was her debut, and she found the story so poignant that she decided to act alongside her singing career. In a 2013 interview, she mentioned that the character of Mai moved her emotionally and was quite close to her own life reality.
Notably, Asha did not use glycerin for any emotional scenes in the film; tears would come to her eyes naturally. She stated that she immersed herself so deeply into the character that emotions would arise spontaneously. Before the film 'Mai', the singer's daughter had committed suicide in 2012, and she had not yet recovered from that pain when her son passed away from cancer in 2015.
