Surat: BJP Meeting for Municipal Elections, 1718 Candidates Eliminated, 360 Names Shortlisted
In Surat, the Bharatiya Janata Party has taken a significant step in the candidate selection process for the upcoming municipal elections scheduled for April 26. Out of 2078 candidates, 360 names have been shortlisted in the first phase, while approximately 1718 candidates have been eliminated.
This selection process for the 120 seats of the Surat Municipal Corporation has been highly competitive. During the coordination meeting, a panel of three candidates was prepared for each seat. This lengthy meeting was attended by senior party leaders and organizational officials, during which each candidate was discussed in detail.
The list of the shortlisted 360 names will now be sent to the party's parliamentary board, which will select the final candidates. This phase is considered crucial for the candidates. Sources indicate that the selection criteria prioritized candidates' tenure, popularity, loyalty to the organization, and winning potential.
The party has also emphasized providing opportunities to youth and new faces. Due to the large number of candidates, the selection process has been challenging, but the list has been prepared after extensive discussions. All eyes are now on the parliamentary board's final decision, which will clarify which faces the party will bet on in the election.
