Surat: Paid FSI Revenue of Municipal Corporation Exceeds 1000 Cror

Surat, April 3 — Despite discussions of a slowdown in the construction sector, the paid FSI (Floor Space Index) revenue of the Surat Municipal Corporation has exceeded 1000 crores for the third consecutive year. Following the end of the octroi, a significant portion of the corporation's income became reliant on grants from the state and central governments.

However, the paid FSI revenue has emerged as an important financial support for the corporation. For the fiscal year 2025-26, the corporation set a target of 1040 crores and achieved an income of 1004.37 crores, which is approximately 96.57% of the target. This revenue had also crossed the 1000 crores mark in the previous two years, indicating the continuity of development activities in the city.

During this period, a total of 707 development permission files were approved through the Central City Development Department, including 256 offline and 451 online (e-Nagar) applications. Of these, building usage certificates (BUC) have already been issued for 286 projects. Additionally, 2400 plot validation files necessary for new construction works have been approved, marking the highest in the last five years.

Based on recommendations from the town planning department, these certificates have enabled the corporation to acquire over 8 lakh square meters of land, facilitating the acceleration of basic amenities and infrastructure projects in the city. The new commissioner, M. Nagarajan, has expedited development activities since taking charge.

In just the last two months, 172 development permission files have been approved, including 50 offline and 142 online applications. Furthermore, the corporation has resolved 679 plot validation applications, resulting in the acquisition of 1.67 lakh square meters of land. These figures clearly indicate that development activities in Surat are ongoing, and the paid FSI revenue is playing a crucial role in strengthening the corporation's financial position.
