Surat: Preparations for Local Government Elections 2026 Intensify
Surat, April 2 — With the announcement of the Local Government General Election-2026 by the State Election Commission on April 1, 2026, the Surat district administration has become fully active.
Under the leadership of District Election Officer and Collector Dr. Saurabh Pardhi, election preparations are underway, and the model code of conduct has been strictly implemented. Training is being provided to officials and staff involved in the election process. Election officials have also been appointed for the Surat Municipal Corporation, district and taluka panchayats, and municipalities, while teams have been activated to ensure compliance with the code of conduct.
According to the announced schedule, voting in the district will take place on April 26, 2026, with the counting of votes set for April 28, 2026. The election notification will be issued on April 6, and the last date for filing nomination papers has been set for April 11. The scrutiny of nomination papers will occur on April 13, and candidates can withdraw their nominations until April 15. If necessary, a re-poll will be conducted on April 27. According to the District Election Officer, a total of 2,47,63,78 voters are registered in the 30 wards of the Surat Municipal Corporation, with 2,609 polling stations established for this purpose.
Additionally, for the 36 seats of the Surat District Panchayat and a total of 204 seats in 11 taluka panchayats, 92,43,20 voters are registered across 1,199 polling stations. In terms of municipalities, the Kadodara municipality has 19,334 voters at 20 polling stations, the Bardoli municipality has 41,669 voters across 46 polling stations in 9 wards, the Mandvi municipality has 12,841 voters at 14 polling stations for 6 wards, and the Tarsadi municipality has 18,554 voters at 21 polling stations for 7 wards.
The district administration is making extensive and planned preparations for the smooth conduct of the elections. Various activities will also be organized to raise awareness among voters, ensuring maximum participation in this grand festival of democracy.
