Surat police bust gang using children to steal valuables at railway station
Surat, January 25. The Local Crime Branch (LCB) police have arrested a cunning gang that utilized children to commit thefts under the guise of begging or selling balloons and toys. This group operated primarily at railway stations and other crowded areas, where they would push children forward to steal gold jewelry and valuable items from unsuspecting individuals. The police have seized stolen goods from the possession of the accused and have solved theft cases amounting to more than Rs 15 lakh.
The LCB police had received crucial information about this gang through social media and technical surveillance. Acting on this intelligence, the officials successfully apprehended the accused at the Surat Railway Station. It was observed, as per agency report, that the gang employed a specific strategy of using minors to distract victims before making off with their valuables.
Providing details on the case, Surat Railway Police DySP Abhay Soni informed that a complaint regarding a theft had been registered at the Surat Railway Police Station on December 16. The complainant, Naimichand Jain, who had traveled to Surat from Rajasthan, reported that his purse containing gold jewelry was stolen while he was getting off at platform number 2.
Acknowledging the gravity of the situation, the LCB and Railway Police initiated an investigation based on CCTV footage. The probe initially led the team to the Kailashnagar area of Pandesara, but it was discovered that the accused had already vacated their huts and fled the location. Further information later revealed that the gang had escaped towards the Buldhana district in Maharashtra.
