Families return to Shiv Residency as experts declare structure safe following D-wall collapse in Surat
Surat : The administration and local residents have finally breathed a sigh of relief following the panic caused by the collapse of a D-wall at an under-construction project in the Bhimrad area. After a thorough technical inspection of the nearby Shiv Residency structure, experts have clarified in their report that the building has not suffered any structural damage and is completely safe.
It is significant to note that the diaphragm wall of the project under construction in Bhimrad suddenly collapsed on Tuesday, leading to the immediate evacuation of all families residing in the 192 flats of Shiv Residency as a precautionary measure. As per agency report, upon receiving information about the incident, the Municipal Corporation, Fire Brigade, police, and project engineers reached the spot to bring the situation under control, and the entire area was sealed off to restrict public movement for safety reasons.
Following the incident, structural engineers and geotechnical experts conducted a detailed and intensive inspection of Shiv Residency and the related under-construction project for two consecutive days. The pit created by the breakage of the wall was filled with the necessary amount of soil, thoroughly compacted, and additional strengthening measures were undertaken. After the completion of all these processes, the experts declared the building and the surrounding area safe.
Upon receiving the final report, the administration granted permission for the families of the 192 flats, who had been evacuated for safety reasons, to return to their homes. Furthermore, the municipal body has clarified that regular surveillance and monitoring of the entire area will continue in the coming days to ensure that any potential danger is prevented in time.
Meanwhile, the administration has initiated the process of legal action against the contractor and developer responsible for the wall collapse incident. Officials have stated that strict steps will be taken if negligence is established to ensure that such incidents do not recur in the future.
