Surat, December 7: The Global Fabric Resource and Research Center of the Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry organized a special brainstorming session on the sixth day of Textile Parv 2.0. The session, held on Saturday at Samruddhi in Nanpura, focused on the future of India's textile policy and the role of Surat in the global value chain. The ongoing event is scheduled daily from December 1 to December 8, 2022.

The session commenced with a welcome address by Chamber President Nikhil Madrasi, who acknowledged the extensive experience of the keynote speaker, S.P. Verma, the former Additional Textile Commissioner of the Government of India. Madrasi mentioned that the Chamber has appointed Verma as a consultant for the Center of Excellence and emphasized that every individual must remain a lifelong student to foster textile innovation. As per agency report, the keynote speaker provided a detailed analysis of the changing nature of India's textile policy, global opportunities, and the challenges facing the Man-Made Fiber value chain.

Verma highlighted the significant role Surat plays in increasing India's share in the global textile trade while shedding light on technology upgradation, sustainability, skill development, and the evolving global supply chain. He noted that the Textile Policy 2024 places a special focus on sustainability, innovation, and investment, with comprehensive provisions made to promote smart and technical textiles. Furthermore, he observed that the Commonwealth Games scheduled to be held in Ahmedabad in 2030 would bring massive opportunities for the textile industry, urging entrepreneurs to begin their preparations immediately.

Addressing market trends, Verma stated that the global demand for synthetic fabrics is rising rapidly and India needs to take significant steps toward large-scale production. He described the coming times as being full of possibilities for Surat, particularly for the MMF industry. He also discussed issues such as environmental challenges, the shortage of skilled workers, and competition from China. To strengthen global competitiveness, he suggested that Surat requires a dedicated textile machinery park and shared information regarding incentives available under the revised PLI scheme.

The program outline was presented by Ashish Gujarati, the former President of the Chamber and Chairman of the Textile Task Force, who also introduced the keynote speaker. The session concluded with GFRRC Co-Chairman Amrish Bhatt moderating the event and expressing gratitude to the gathered guests.
