Safety Concerns Heightened in Surat as Two Buses Confront Each Other on BRTS Route

The Surat Municipal Corporation's (SMC) CT-BRTS bus service, designed for improved public transport and environment preservation, faced controversy recently when two municipal buses were caught on video confronting each other on the dedicated BRTS route. This incident, which has sparked considerable discussion on social media, has raised serious safety concerns for the thousands of passengers who rely on these buses every day.

Surat's BRTS route has been no stranger to disturbances caused by private vehicles, which are known to increase the risk of accidents. However, this is the first instance of two municipal buses breaking protocol and coming face-to-face on the BRTS lane, a lane traditionally designed for unidirectional traffic.

The incident occurred in the Piplod area of Surat, causing both buses to stop, leading to a disruption in the usually streamlined traffic flow.

The CT-BRTS service, run by the Surat Municipal Corporation, caters to approximately three lakh daily passengers. Despite its crucial role in public transport and environmental preservation, it has frequently been embroiled in controversy due to various issues, including accidents and ticketing irregularities. This recent incident has highlighted the need for stricter adherence to traffic rules on the BRTS route, not just by private vehicles, but also by the municipal buses themselves.
