Surat Municipal Corporation Offers Free Bus Travel to Women and Children on Raksha Bandhan

Surat: In a special gesture to celebrate the festival of Raksha Bandhan, the Surat Municipal Corporation has announced free travel for women and their children (up to 15 years of age) in BRTS and city buses on August 9, 2025. This initiative has been undertaken on the recommendation of Public Transport Committee Chairman Somnath Marathe.

According to information shared by the municipal body, the city currently operates 363 BRTS buses across 13 routes on a dedicated 108-kilometer BRTS corridor. Additionally, 378 city buses serve commuters on 45 different routes. Together, these public transport services cover a network of 452 kilometers across Surat, benefitting over two lakh passengers daily.

The special arrangement on Raksha Bandhan aims to enhance convenience for women and strengthen family bonds by allowing them to travel for free with their children. As per agency report, the initiative is part of the civic body’s broader effort to promote inclusivity and accessibility in public transport.

The Surat Municipal Corporation has urged women across the city to take full advantage of this facility and make the festival day safe, comfortable, and memorable. The initiative not only honors the role of women in society but also encourages the use of public transport, aligning with the city’s vision of sustainable and people-friendly urban mobility.
